The coastline of Amed is a stretch of bays with volcanic rock shorelines and the occasional black sand beach. Each headland involves an uphill climb which makes exploring by foot hard work but by bike you get a new view every few kilometres. Each bay has its own feel and many have a range of accommodation with restaurant. Food can be very cheap with 14,000rp Nasi Campur at West Pantai. Average meals are 35,000rp.
Accommodation is cheap (Teman Teman Hotel) with off season prices slipping as low as 100,000 to 150,000rp for a beachfront basic, clean room. More upmarket accommodation is available also. In July/August prices can triple.
Most of the dive operators offer accommodation which may be discounted if diving.
Expect to see a village life of chickens, pigs and fisherman huts often on prime beach side land. Many bays are lined with fishing boats. Meditasio has a nice chill out area in the restaurant where you may slip into a siesta whilst reading after lunch and you can also find some quiet yoga tuition if that your thing.
